Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine & Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

Dr. Abend was previously a uniquely qualified member of a pain management team, in Hackensack and Roseland, New Jersey, as a special consultant. He has been in clinical medical practice for over 18 years in Bergen County and is Board Certified in 2 medical specialties.

He is Board Certified in Family Practice as well as in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. There are only about 650 D.O.'s in the entire United States that can claim this distinction.

Besides an active medical practice and multiple hospital privileges; Valley Hospital, Ridgewood; Englewood Clinical Hospital, Englewood; and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Rahway, he is a clinical professor and holds faulty appointments at over 5 major medical schools in the tri-state area. These include UMDNJ, Touro and Columbia P&S.

His understanding of pain management from both a primary care and a specialty point of view allows him to be especially sensitive to the needs of his patients with pain. As one of the first physicians to meet, examine, document and discuss their specific and individual pain management needs and procedures prior to and after formal pain management procedures.

Dr. Abend has just been appointed to head up the new Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine ( OMM ) Clinic at St. Michael's Medical Center, an outstanding New Jersey teaching hospital in Newark 2 times a month on Fridays where he will evaluate supervise the treatment of patients with various musculoskeletal issues like headache, neck, back and arthritic pain with Medical residents and students in training from some of the area's most prestigious medical schools. In addition, he lectures at St. Joseph's Medical Center in nearby Paterson, another teaching hospital to the Medical, Surgical, Emergency Medicine, and Family Practice Residents as well as medical students who are training there.

He continues his affiliations as a Double Board-Certified specialist and a Professor with Clinical faculty appointments at area medical schools:
